SUMMARY
Launched in 2012 as a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 1962 Mercury-Alpha 8 mission, this Speedmaster “First Omega in Space” is a faithful and modern take on the CK2998 worn on the wrist of Wally Schirra. This numbered edition has grown in popularity in recent years, particularly since being discontinued in 2020. The watch reprises the classic looks of older Speedmasters with a smaller 39.7mm case and straight lugs. This 21st-century tribute features the same black dial, black bezel and stainless steel case with symmetrical lugs as the watch that inspired it. As a further tribute to the original, both Baton and Alpha-style hands are used. As a final touch, the stainless steel caseback is also embossed with the original 1962 seahorse medallion.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
