For auction through a private seller, this limited edition 2016 Chopard Mille Miglia ref. 168566-3002 is presented with its original display box, plus its user manual and certificate of origin document. The vendor advises the watch is in very good condition and hardly worn - grading it ‘A’ for condition. The images appear consistent with their assessment, showing only minor signs of wear.

This piece is individually numbered as one of 1,000 limited edition and is part of Chopard’s Mille Miglia collection that celebrates the namesake Italian road race. The case measures 42mm in diameter and is finished entirely in stainless steel. As a watch redolent of motorsports, its most eye-catching design feature is its ‘Italian Racing Red’ or “Rosso Corsa” dial. Other racing details include a fuel tank-inspired power reserve and a date window surrounded by the classic arrow-shaped ‘Mille Miglia’ sign. Meanwhile, the dial’s blend of oversized Arabic numerals and baton hour markers are a nod to the instrument dials of the post-war machines competing in the gruelling event.

The watch wears a black leather strap with red outer stitching, which is reminiscent of period racing safety harnesses.

Chopard’s in-house developed 01.08-C calibre drives the watch, and it is visible beneath the rear viewing crystal. Comprising 251 components with 40 jewels, this chronometer-certified automatic movement beats to a frequency of 28,800 vph and has a power reserve of 60 hours.

Chopard has been the official sponsor and timekeeper of the Mille Miglia since 1988. This particular commemorative reference was launched in 2015 and is one of just 1,000 units produced worldwide.
