SUMMARY
Named after the Carrera Panamerica road race, this 2015 limited edition reference would make an ideal piece for the motorsport-loving watch collector. Number 156 of 1974 watches, the McLaren 1974 Edition was commissioned in 2014 to mark the 50th anniversary of the British motorsport powerhouse’s first Formula 1 world title. Despite being visually similar to the standard TAG Heuer Carrera, there are several nods to its exclusivity in its design. The seconds hand and ‘McLaren 1974 Edition’ wording on the bezel are finished in Papaya Orange, and a black rubber strap with a tyre tread-inspired black rubber strap is anchored to the watch’s bold 43mm stainless steel case. A further motorsport reference is the rear-viewing crystal, which is finished with a ‘74’ in a retro font. The watch is driven by TAG Heuer’s in-house developed 1887 calibre; a chronometer-certified automatic movement with a 50-hour power reserve.
