Sell it with usBreitling launched their first Blackbird chronograph watch in 1995. Taking inspiration from the Lockheed SR-71 spy plane and Breitling’s long association with aviation, the Blackbird was initially released as part of the popular Chronomat range. Whilst the Blackbird shared many characteristics with the Chronomat watches, it did have a few notable differences. The first models were stealthier in appearance with monochromatic dials and brushed rather than polished finishing on the case.
In 2007 the Breitling Chronomat Blackbird A44359, of which this is a later (2015) example, ushered in some changes. The case size increased to an impressive 44mm, with the lug width expanding to 22mm. Breitling also gave the watch a mix of brushed and high polished surfaces instead of just a matte finish. The bezel includes 360-degrees graduations and tabs with E/S/W for geographical orientation. The shape of the chronograph pushers was also changed for this model, and these pushers lock to avoid accidentally activating the chronograph function whilst underwater. One of the standout features of the dial on this generation of Blackbird Breitling watches is the oversized date window under 12 o’clock, combined with the trio of registers at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock. The movement is the Breitling Caliber 44 modular chronograph movement (based on ETA 2892). Water resistance is rated to a depth of 300 meters (1,000 feet).
The watch sits on its original steel bracelet with a signed clasp. It is accompanied by its Inner and outer boxes; a travel pouch, wallet, spare links and original papers. The condition falls within the parameters of the seller’s rating of AA.
