Possessing one of the most evocative watch complications, Piaget's moon phase Emperador Coussin XL in 18ct white gold is poetry in motion. The extra-large, 46.5mm model features a beautifully realised moon-phase indicator at 6 o'clock, on the slate grey dial, designed to resemble the cratered surface of our nearest celestial neighbour and so precise it promises only one day of discrepancy every 122 years. The complication is controlled by an extremely fine gear train- a wheel of 135 teeth drives the rotation of the moon mask which hides and reveals a second disc symbolising the moon. The dial is finished with 18 carat white gold applied hour-markers and a sunburst satin-brushed silver centre with large 18 carat white gold moon at 6 o’clock.

The 46.5 mm gold case houses the Piaget 860P automatic movement, beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour and featuring a double barrel which guarantees a power reserve of 72 hours. The exceptional finishes are in line with traditional haute horlogerie: bevelled bridges, blued screws, circular Côtes de Genève and circular-grained mainplate. The oscillating weight is engraved with the Piaget coat of arms.

It would be hard to guess at the complexity of the 6.1mm Piaget 860P automatic mechanical movement contained within from simply glimpsing at the cushion-shaped case. The minimalist design of Piaget's moon phase Emperador Coussin XL in 18ct white gold, with its slender hour markers and hands, and subtle use of deep grey and white gold, exudes the quiet confidence of a brand that doesn't have to shout its credentials from the rooftops.

This is an estimable work from a serious maison.

The watch is presented for sale in very good condition with only minor surface marks commensurate with age and authenticity, to the case, caseback, white gold deployant and signed buckle.
