Sell it with usFrom a private owner, this Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph ref. 5980R-001 is offered as a full set, complete with box, warranty certificate, booklets, leather sleeve, spare bracelet links and x2 leather straps. Presented in mint condition, the watch appears to be consistent with the vendor’s ‘AA’ condition.
The distinctive Gerald Genta case architecture is instantly recognizable of its original forebear, the ref. 3700 from 1976, only now with increased functionality offered to the modern wearer thanks to its flyback chronograph with a monocounter displaying total elapsed time. The rose gold case features a screw-down crown, sapphire-crystal case back and is rated water-resistant to 120m. The case diameter is 40.5 mm, and the height is 12.2 mm. The watch is expertly hand finished with a blend of brushed and polished surfaces.
The dial has a gradient finish and a distinctive horizontal embossing that’s become onymous with the Nautilus model line. The chronograph timing is neatly displayed at 6 o’clock, keeping the dial symmetrical and uncluttered. Super-Luminova has been used to fill the rose gold markers and hands to provide maximum legibility to the wearer.
On the watch’s underside, a sapphire case back reveals the calibre CH 28-520 C/522 movement, which comprises 327 parts and offers a power reserve of up to 55 hours. The rotor is made in 21-karat gold, and the movement is finely finished and decorated with the Patek Philippe Seal. The watch is fitted to a satin-finished rose gold bracelet, with polished intermediary links and a fine bevel that extends from the case and down the edge of each link.
With the rounded octagonal bezel, the ingenious porthole construction of its case, and its distinctive horizontally embossed dial, the Nautilus has long been the very epitome of the elegant (and highly sought-after) sports watch.
The watch was originally supplied on its alligator strap as according to its reference number designation (5980R-001). However, it is also offered for auction on an official Patek Philippe rose gold bracelet which is currently fitted.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
