Sell it with usAuctioned through a private vendor, this 2013 Patek Philippe Aquanaut is presented with its original lacquered wood display box and outer sleeve, and accompanying Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin paperwork. The watch has some age-appropriate wear on the polished lugs of the bezel, with some light marks and scratches on the strap clasp. The seller reports the watch to be in good working order, and the information provided about it appears to correlate with their ‘A’ grading. The seller also notes that the strap has been sized to fit a smaller wrist.
The so-called “young person’s” Patek Philippe reference, this understated sports watch measures 40.8mm in diameter and is finished in a blend of brushed and polished stainless steel. Housed within its rounded octagonals case inspired by its big brother, the Patek Philippe Nautilus, is a graded black-to-grey geosphere bezel with Arabic numerals and baton hands providing superb legibility in all conditions. Meanwhile, the dial’s outer white track and lume-filled indices serve to enhance the watch’s youthful credentials. Attached to the watch is a black version of Patek Philippe’s ‘tropical’ rubber strap, which is fashioned from a composite ultra resistant to salt water corrosion and UV radiation. The Patek Philippe Aquanaut is water resistant to a maximum depth of 120 metres.
Visible through the display caseback beats Patek Philippe’s 324 SC calibre, which measures a mere 3.3mm in height. This ultra-thin self-winding movement beats to a frequency of 28,800 vph and has a power reserve of up to 45 hours. Comprising 217 parts, its most striking visual feature is the 21K gold central rotor embossed with the signature Patek Philippe Calatrava cross.
With the launch of the Aquanaut in 1997, Patek Philippe shook the luxury watch world by deciding to fit its all-new reference with a rubber strap. Nonetheless, it has proved popular thanks to its contemporary design and modern construction.
