Sell it with usOffered by a private collector, this Patek Philippe Nautilus ref. 5980/1A-019 is presented with its presentation box, outer box, certificate of origin, booklets, leather folder and date adjustment tool. The watch shows some very light swirls on the case and bracelet and its condition appears to be within the bounds of the seller’s ‘A’ grading.
The stainless case features a screw-down crown, sapphire-crystal case back and is rated water-resistant to 120m. The case diameter is 40.5 mm, and the height is 12.2 mm. The watch is expertly hand finished with a blend of brushed and polished surfaces.
This example has the seldom-seen white dial with blackened indices and hands, which has since been discontinued. It has distinctive horizontal embossing that’s become synonymous with the Nautilus model line. The chronograph timing is neatly displayed at 6 o’clock, keeping the dial symmetrical and uncluttered. Super-Luminova has been used to fill the rose gold markers and hands to provide maximum legibility to the wearer.
On the watch’s underside, a sapphire caseback reveals the calibre CH 28-520 C/522 movement, which comprises 327 parts and offers a power reserve of up to 55 hours. The rotor is made in 21K gold, and the movement is finely finished and decorated with the Patek Philippe Seal. The lot is presented on its integrated stainless steel bracelet with a double-deployant clasp.
With the rounded octagonal bezel, the ingenious porthole construction of its case, and its distinctive horizontally embossed dial, the Nautilus has long been the epitome of the elegant (and highly sought-after) sports watch.
