SUMMARY

A cult favourite amongst IWC collectors, the Da Vinci line has been an important launching pad for some of the brand’s key innovations. Starting life in 1969 with a hexagonal case and quartz movement, the Da Vinci captured the world’s attention in the mid-1980s with the introduction of a perpetual calendar model, developed by famous watchmaker Kurt Klaus. Released amid the quartz crisis, it helped put mechanical wristwatches back on the map.

Fast forward to 2007, IWC introduced a new generation with a tonneau-shaped case, including this reference housing a new movement and IWC’s first-ever in-house chronograph. It benefits from a column wheel and vertical clutch system, giving the pushers a crisp and positive action. The 43mm steel case is substantial and contains a blend of polished and brushed surfaces. The dial remains clean and symmetrical thanks to the twin register chronograph, indicating both the minutes and hours in a singular sub-dial. The technical achievements of this model aren’t only limited to the movement, with the bracelet containing a convenient push-button link removal system.

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
