SUMMARY
Introduced in 1997, the Aquanaut draws inspiration from its Genta-designed counterpart, the Nautilus, but maintains its own unique character. It was considered unconventional at launch, offered on a strap made of rubber - a material not traditionally associated with Switzerland’s premier watchmakers. Since then, it’s set the trend for other manufacturers to combine luxurious and contemporary materials, and the rapid rise in values illustrates its popularity with collectors.
The stainless steel case of this reference 5065A-001 from 2007 measures 38mm in diameter and was labelled a ‘jumbo’ size by Patek Philippe when it was released in 1998. In contemporary terms, its dimensions are versatile and perfect for a range of wrist sizes. Conceived as a sports watch, it features crown guards, a screw-down crown and 120m water resistance making it a watch for any occasion. On the watch’s underside, an exhibition case back displays the calibre 315 SC. This automatic movement is elaborately decorated with a 21K yellow gold rotor and stamped with the Patek Philippe Seal.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
