Sell it with usThis Patek Philippe Aquanaut ref. 5065A is offered by a private collector and is accompanied by its display box, outer box, extract from the archive dated October 2019, a spare factory composite rubber strap and a booklet. The watch shows some light marks and swirls visible on the case, and its condition appears to be within the bounds of the vendor’s ‘A’ grading.
The stainless steel case measures 38mm in diameter and was labelled a ‘jumbo’ size by Patek Philippe when it was released in 1998. In contemporary terms, its dimensions are versatile and perfect for a range of wrist sizes. Conceived as a sports watch, it features crown guards, a screw-down crown and 120m water resistance making it a watch for any occasion.
The dial has a distinctive geosphere cut emblematic of the model line and is complemented by highly contrasting luminous hour markers and applied Arabic numerals. This same pattern is evident on the green composite rubber strap, which is secured to the wrist via a double deployant clasp and signed with the Calatrava Cross. On the watch’s underside, a sapphire case back displays the calibre 315 SC. Expertly hand-finished, the movement has Côtes de Genève across the bridges and 21K winding rotor. It’s also stamped with the Geneva Seal hallmark.
Introduced in 1997, the Aquanaut draws inspiration from its Genta designed counterpart, the Nautilus, but maintains its own unique character. It was considered unconventional at launch, offered on a strap made of rubber - a material not traditionally associated with Switzerland’s premier watchmakers. Since then, it’s set the trend for other manufacturers to combine luxurious and contemporary materials, and the rapid rise in values illustrates its popularity with collectors.
