Even though Roger Dubuis himself left his eponymous brand in 2003, after only 8 years, the quality and design of his early output has very much stood the test of time. He combined traditional techniques and aesthetics with a more contemporary approach, perhaps best expressed in the innovative Sympathie design.

The 37mm white gold case is very distinctive with its polished, stepped concave bezel and brushed elongated lugs, making for a greater presence on the wrist than its dimensions would usually suggest. This example from 2001 features a salmon coloured dial, with gold applied Breguet hour numerals and a wavy guilloché finish. The blued dauphine hands are sharply finished, creating an appealing balance between their two different portions.

The watch is powered by the Calibre RD 57, based on the Lemania 8810. This was one of the highest quality base automatic movements available at the time and has been extensively decorated. The movement is visible through an engraved sapphire case-back and features 25-jewels, a monometallic balance adjusted to 5 positions, a self-compensating Breguet spring and a swan-neck micrometre regulator.

This lot is accompanied by its presentation box and papers, including a Bulletin de Marche from the observatory at Besancon. Also present; a spare strap, spare caseback, swing tag and leather pouch. The watch comes on an alligator leather strap with a signed tang buckle. The watch shows some signs of wear with scratches to the case and bezel and falls within the parameters of the seller’s rating of ‘A’ condition.

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
