Sell it with usAdding water resistance to the classic Art Deco design, the LeCoultre Reverso Grand Sport hides chronograph functionality behind its time-only face. Offered with full box and papers.
Jaeger-LeCoultre’s emblematic Reverso was inspired by the Art Deco period in which it was originally brought to life. Its clean lines, rectangular form, and Arabic numerals along with the functionality of its swivelling case – originally designed in 1931 for polo-playing British Army Officers – is both ingenious and intriguing.
In this Reverso Gran Sport Chronograph, model no. 295.8.59, the watch builds on its heritage of a swivelling case, but here, deploys a second dial instead of a protective element. One side of the black dial displays hours, minutes, seconds, date, and an indicator to show that the chronograph is in use. Another shows a 60 second counter and a 30-minute retrograde counter, also presented in black.
The 43mm x 28mm stainless steel case is 10mm thick and houses an in-house JLC calibre 859 manual winding mechanical movement. Despite powering both dials, it puts out an impressive 44-hour power reserve.
Water resistant up to 50m and with two handsome square button chronograph pushers, this watch is easy on the eye, functional, classically refined. A fantastic example of the craft that has helped JLC be known as ‘the watchmaker’s watchmaker’ within the Swiss Jura Mountains.
Available here with its original box and papers and on a stainless-steel bracelet, the watch is in worn condition with surface swirling and slight scratching across its case. The outer box also has some signs of wear but needn’t subtract from its significant charms.
