Sell it with usPatek Philippe’s Gondolo collection was launched in 1993 as a contemporary take on the stepped, stylistic lines of 1920’s art deco. The line is named for the “Chronometro Gondolo” watches created by Patek for the Brazilian jewellers Gondolo & Labouriau in Rio de Janeiro in 1902. Today the name belongs to a set of modern Patek watches with unusual (non-round) shapes and designs.
This is an 18K yellow gold Gondolo, reference 5014J-015, retailed by Tiffany. The 28mm x 35mm two-body solid tonneau case, stepped art-deco bezel, and integral lugs are polished; the double-signed white dial has black painted Arabic numerals, gold baton hands, and a railway-style outer minute track. A subsidiary seconds dial is at 6 o’clock. The manual winding calibre 215 movement includes a self-compensating flat balance spring and the patented Patek Philippe Gyromax balance. The solid case back is secured with four screws and designed to be water resistant to 25 meters/90 feet.
This watch, which dates from around 2000, comes on a Tiffany branded black crocodile strap and a Patek 18K yellow gold buckle. It is supplied with a service receipt from Patek Philippe dated January 2012. There are light marks and swirls to the case and the leather strap shows signs of wear.
