SUMMARY
The first Perpetual Calendar in a wristwatch was produced in 1889 by Patek Philippe. To this day, Patek makes only a small number of Grand Complication watches in any given year, owing to the lengthy time required to create them.
This ref. 3940J-001 offers a combination of technical prowess and luxuriousness. The 3940 was introduced in 1985 and remained in production until 2007. The watch presented here, finished in 18K yellow gold, is part of the ‘Third Series’ which presents subtle changes to the dial and sub-dials.
The movement within, the calibre 240 Q, was engineered to be thin while capturing the spirit of 1980s Patek. Because of the thin movement, the watch measures only 8.8mm thick and 36mm in diameter, making for an optimum wearing experience. It is estimated that Patek Philippe only produced approximately 7000 examples until the end of its production in 2007.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
Any watch not covered by a current sales or service warranty should be considered as potentially requiring a service, even if in full working order on the date of purchase.
