The Calatrava is the first named collection within Patek Philippe’s production and the longest running, being launched in 1932 and still being produced in various forms today.

Named after the ornate cross used by the knights of the Calatrava fortress in Spain, the symbol was registered as a trademark, alongside Patek Philippe & Cie, on April 27th, 1887.

The Calatrava is most often associated with simple but stylish dress watches, and no more so than this ref. 5000-R. The sunburst rose gold dial changes colour as it moves in the light and the off-set seconds sub-dial add a dynamism to the design. The watch is powered by calibre 240ps, a 27 jewel automatic movement with micro-rotor.

This watch is offered in good overall condition, with papers but no box. The case has some scratches and marks from wear with a small dent to the bezel at 1 o’clock and another at 9 and a light graze to the bezel at 6. The crystal is unmarked at the dial and hands are in excellent condition.

The clasp his light scratches from wear and functions correctly. The strap has light discolouration on the underside but is in otherwise good condition.
