It’s been almost 50 years since the creation of the original Patek Philippe Nautilus and it is now more popular than ever. First unveiled by Patek Philippe in the 1970s and designed by Gérald Genta, the Nautilus has become the collectors’ go-to watch thanks to its distinctive features and its role as a pioneer for high-end luxury sports watches.

In the 1980s, Patek Philippe introduced the mid-size reference 3800 Nautilus. It had a reduced diameter of 37.5mm and was intended to appeal to a wider audience. Carrying over many of the original Nautilus design elements, the 3800 saw a continuation of the monobloc rounded polygon case and protruding ears.

This example from the 90’s features index-markers and hands manufactured from yellow gold against the classic Nautilus horizontal blue striped dial. It shows hours, minutes, seconds and date. The integrated bracelet is excellently finished, with angular, bevelled and polished edges. Polished screws, bezel and case edges contrast with the brushed surface of the case and bracelet.

This reference 3800 in yellow gold features the calibre 335 SC with 29 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance; and adjusted to five positions.

The watch, which shows only light signs of wear, is presented on its original gold bracelet and comes with a presentation box.

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
