Sell it with usThis IWC Titan chronograph from the 1980s comes from a private collection and is offered on its original bracelet along with extra links and a key for removing and replacing the links. It is presented in an aftermarket travel pouch. The seller rated the watch as being in ‘A’ condition, and it falls within the bounds of their rating. The titanium case retains its matte anti-reflective matte finishing and factory angles throughout. The crystal shows some very light wear around the edges.
The IWC Titan Chronograph is characterised by its seamless design. The chronograph pushers are neatly blended into the 42mm case, allowing the watch to maintain its symmetry throughout. The integrated bracelet follows the lines of the case, and the thin link design allows for an ergonomic fit. To maintain maximum legibility, the hands, markers and numerals are all in white against a matt black dial. The orange chronograph seconds hand adds a splash of colour. The tritium lume plots have mellowed to a golden patina.
The first titanium chronograph ever created was produced as a joint effort between IWC and Porsche Design. The Titan ref. 3700 was a marvel of engineering when it was produced in the early 1980s, as titanium was still seen as exotic metal due to the cost of the material and its difficulty to work. The Titan saw several dial variants throughout its lifetime and only the very early examples, like this one, feature the “TITAN” text on the 6 o’clock side of the case.
