Offered by a private collector, this vintage Omega Speedmaster 125 is accompanied by an Omega box and an embossed A4 folder from Omega in Switzerland containing an Extract from the Archives pertaining to the watch’s provenance. Now entering its fifth decade, this unusual “Speedy” remarkably has very few age-related marks or scratches, and the photos and information provided appear to correlate with the vendor’s ‘A’ grading for condition.

Finished entirely in stainless steel, the design of this 42mm Omega Speedmaster 125 is redolent of 1970s design language with its angular profile. Commissioned to commemorate 125 years of the Omega brand, the two-piece case was created to provide this limited edition Speedmaster with added durability and easier servicing.

The dial is largely the same as the one found on the Omega Speedmaster Mk. 3 - both are finished in black with a date window at three o’clock, a 12-hour indicator at six o’clock, and a sub-dial at nine o’clock showing a 24-hour indicator and constant seconds. However, there are some subtle differences - the Omega logo, wording, and 125 designations are all finished in applied steel whilst the ‘Speedmaster’ moniker is painted. Meanwhile, the stainless steel bracelet is fitted with a clasp adorned with the Omega emblem.

In addition to its design, the Speedmaster 125 is widely regarded for its 1041 calibre. Used as a one-off for this reference, the 17-jewel 1041 was the world’s first automatic chronograph chronometer. This technological tour-de-force was fitted with a rotor mounted on a ball bearing to improve accuracy, and calibre 1041 beats to a high frequency of 28,800 v/ph with a power reserve of 44 hours.

The Omega Speedmaster 125 is a highly-desirable timepiece amongst collectors not just for its eye-catching design, but for its technological achievement and limited production number of 2,000 pieces.
