This Ref. 73464 ‘Skipper’ has developed into one of Heuer’s most desirable models. Originally designed to aid Yacht-Racing starts, today its eye-catching and colourful countdown dial creates a fun point of difference to its modern counterparts.

Presented in a 42mm stainless steel case, the watch is sized in step with modern tool watch trends. Sat at 14mm off the wrist, with a lug width of 20mm it is robust, but not cumbersome.

Powered by a manual-wind Valjoux calibre 7734 movement which was famously used across a number of chronographs, in the 60s and 70s. Operating at a slightly slower VBH (Vibrations per hour) than modern automatic movements, the Skipper has a pleasingly vintage ‘ticka ticka’ soundtrack to its mechanism.

Defined by its dial featuring a red, white, and blue sub-dial at three o’clock that counts down from 15 minutes. Designed to aid yachting skippers to time race starts to help anticipate flag signals from officials.

A beautiful blue dial accented with orange baton hands and hour markers increase legibility, enhanced with tritium lume. A date window at 6 o’clock and clean, crisp ‘skipper’ font across the centre of the face completes this visually arresting piece. The surrounding blue MH (minutes, hours) bezel is a rare find, especially in such well preserved condition.

Fitted with a brown leather racing strap with orange stitching to match the dial, this is a wonderful example of a ‘Skipper’ and comes in excellent condition with only a slight vintage patina across the stainless-steel case, crown, and pushers. Original box and papers are absent.
