This vintage Omega Seamaster 300 ‘Big Triangle’ is offered for auction as a watch-only lot from a trade seller. Dating back to the 1960s, this example is almost 62 years old, and that is evident in its condition. With marks and scratches all around, it is consistent with its ‘B’ grading. The case shows a lot of its original form with sharp edges along the lugs.

This watch gets its nickname from the large and luminous triangle at 12 o’clock, which helps with legibility and easily identifies the orientation of the watch in dark settings. Developed for the British Royal Navy, it features several military cues such as the large sword hands and high contrast dial. The case is emblematic of Omega’s design language, with lyre-style lugs and a hippocampus engraving on the back. This particular example presents with beautiful patina around the dial and lume that have aged to a deep coffee colour, creating contrast with the script and Arabic numerals. The date aperture appears to be in good condition and thus, easily legible. Internally, the watch is powered by Omega’s calibre 565. This automatic movement has a reputation for being robust and reliable. A quick date adjustment is actuated by pushing and pulling the winding crown in and out. Attached to the case is an original Omega signed bracelet with a folding clasp marked "J/M", which is correct for a watch that originally came from Mexico.

A distant ancestor of the modern-day Seamaster, the ‘Big Triangle’ seen here is a truly robust and functional tool watch that was designed with specific requirements in mind to serve the needs of the British Royal Navy.

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
