The Seamaster name has been a constant presence in the Omega catalogue since 1948 when it was first applied to watches celebrating Omega’s 100th anniversary. But it was not until 1957 that the Seamaster name was actually applied to a watch intended for underwater use. References 14755 (and CK2913), while not the very first in the Seamaster line, were the springboard for innovation - and legacy that was to follow the Seamaster through well over half a century of fame.

This early Seamaster, from 1962, provided inspiration for the 2017 ‘Trilogy’ limited editions that also included modern homages to the Speedmaster and Railmaster. The stainless steel case, made by Hugenin Freres LeLocle, features a narrowing, thin, straight-lug design. The taper of the bevelled lugs allow the watch to maintain a good sense of proportion and stability. The case diameter, at 38.5mm, strikes a balance between wrist presence and legibility.

The matte black dial features triangular hour indices with recessed radium plots and white Arabic numerals at each quarter-hour. It is a specific design that helps to increase legibility thanks to the contrasting shapes and font styles for the large numerals.

This example from 1962 shows visible marks and scratches commensurate with age. The edges of the case and lugs show good definition. The original dive bezel insert showing the 60-minute counter is missing. The dial’s condition is excellent for its age and shows a lovely patina on the hour markers. Some marks and scratches can be seen on the handset. The watch’s overall condition is within the bounds of the seller’s B rating. It comes on a new factory leather strap with an Omega steel tang buckle. It also comes with service papers dated June 2021.
