Sell it with usThis Patek Philippe Gondolo is offered as a watch only lot by a private collector. The seller advises that it dates to the late 1940s to early 50s. The watch shows some signs of wear commensurate with age, including visible marks and scratches to the case and some speckling and patina on the dial. Its overall condition is within the realm of the sellers ‘B’ grading. The watch is accompanied by a brown leather strap with quick-release spring bars.
The yellow gold rectangular case is quintessentially art deco, and its dimensions are representative of mid-century style. The simplicity of its design is what makes the Gondolo timeless and equally beautiful today as in the 50s. The dial has elegant applied indices and hands, with a sub-register a 6 o’clock displaying the seconds. Turning the watch over reveals the engraving of the letters ‘W.M.C.’ and housed beneath that is the hand-wound calibre 10-200.
The Gondolo line is named for the ‘Chronometro Gondolo’ watches created by Patek for the Brazilian jewellers Gondolo & Labouriau in Rio de Janeiro in 1902. Since then, Patek Philippe has adopted this name to define a range of watches with unusual (non-round) shapes and designs.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
