Sell it with usIn 2000, IWC released the Portuguese Automatic 2000; it was created as a limited-edition series to commemorate the caliber 5000 movement. This was the company’s first in-house automatic with a 7-day power reserve.
The case measures 42mm in diameter - a nod to the original dimensions of the Portuguese. It has polishing on the crown, lugs and bezel that contrast with satin-finished flanks. Engraving on the left side of the case reveals the limited-edition serial number out of 1,000.
An acrylic crystal sits proud of the case and offers a view of the large clear dial. Arabic numerals are applied to mark the hours, and the striking white sub-dials display the running seconds and power reserve. IWC’s choice not to include a date further enhances the dial’s symmetry.
Flipping the watch over reveals the impressive caliber 5000 movement, which can be viewed through the sapphire crystal case back. The gold-medallion embellished rotor winds twin main-spring barrels to achieve the substantial 7-day power reserve. The 44-jewel movement beats at 18,000 vibrations per hour.
The watch is presented in excellent condition with minimal signs of wear. It comes on a black leather strap with contrast stitching. Included in the sale are the watch’s original box and papers.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
