Offered by a private collector, this Rolex GMT-Master II ‘Rootbeer’ is being auctioned along with its display box, outer box, warranty card, bezel protector, original receipt and swing tag. This example is presented in worn condition with some light marking on centre links visible. Nevertheless, it falls well within the bounds of the vendor’s ‘A’ grading.

The GMT-Master II has a long and celebrated history within the Rolex catalogue, and this reference is significant for being the first to feature rose gold. It’s part of Rolex’s modern generation of sports watches with the characteristic ‘super case’ that wears with more wrist presence than its 40mm dimensions would suggest.

Nicknamed the ‘Root Beer’ by enthusiasts, the watch features a rose gold bezel with a brown and black bi-colour “Cerachrom” insert. Also finished in gold are the crown, hour markers, hands and bracelet centre links. Rolex’s proprietary Chromalight luminous coating has been used on the hands and markers to maximise legibility to the wearer.

Housed underneath the screw-down case back is Rolex’s latest generation calibre 3285. This automatic movement is chronometer-certified and tested after casing to a tolerance of +2 to -2 seconds per day.

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.

The description of this auction lot is, to the best of the seller's knowledge, accurate and not misleading. Watch Collecting requests a range of detail about the lot from the seller, and performs a level of due diligence. However, bidders must satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of the description, and conduct any research they feel is necessary before committing to a bid.
