• The Explorer is an incredibly important watch in Rolex’s catalogue, forming the foundation for all the company’s professional models when it launched in 1953
• In 2021, the 36mm case was re-introduced at the Watches and Wonders show, after a decade in more bloated dimensions
• The Explorer was originally designed for mountaineering and is therefore built with robustness in mind
• Despite its rugged underpinnings, the Explorer’s timeless aesthetic allows the watch to cross over into more formal settings seamlessly
• Since the release of the original Explorer, the piece has retained its distinctive no-nonsense dial layout displaying Arabic numerals at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock
