SUMMARY
Discontinued by Rolex in early 2023, the Milgauss is as esoteric as it is iconic. The Milgauss was launched in 1956 as a collaborative effort between Rolex and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) who wanted a highly accurate, magnetic-resistant timepiece for its scientists. This latest-and-final generation Milgauss is finished with a black dial and an orange lightning bolt seconds hand; a nod to the original watch. Adding a further layer of visual interest and provenance is the green-tinted sapphire crystal; a Milgauss-only design element, which creates a halo effect around the edge of the glass. Housed underneath the screw-down case back is Rolex's in-house developed calibre 3131. This automatic movement is covered by an anti-magnetic, soft iron Faraday cage to protect the watch from magnetic fields of up to 1,000 gauss (hence the watch's 'Milgauss' moniker) and has a power reserve of 48 hours.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
Any watch not covered by a current sales or service warranty should be considered as potentially requiring a service, even if in full working order on the date of purchase.
