SUMMARY
Recently discontinued, the reference 216570 was first launched in 2011 and ushered in a new generation of Explorer II design. In a rare move for Rolex, they directly drew on their past by incorporating the orange 24-hour hand from the original 1970s ref. 1655. Everything else was beefed up, including a 42mm case and a ‘maxi-dial’ with larger hands and indices. The watch we see here is the ‘Polar’ Explorer II. This dial configuration has become increasingly popular next to the numerous black-dialled alternatives. It’s also unique as the only white-dialled Rolex sports watch with a date.
