Sell it with usFor auction through a private seller, this one-owner Rolex Sky-Dweller was purchased from a UK based authorised dealer, and is presented as a full set. Along with its original display box and outer sleeve, the watch comes with its official documentation including its user guide, service booklet, and proof Rolex’s official five-year guarantee covering the watch until 2024. A further addition to the set includes a set of swing tags. There are a number of light scratches visible on the bracelet, with some further marks on its clasp. However, the vendor advises that the reference is in good working order, and they have given it an ‘A’ grading. The photos and information provided appear to correlate with that assessment.
Finished in solid 18K rose gold, this 42mm, dual-timekeeping Rolex is a reference with significant wrist presence. Fitted with a white gold fluted bezel reminiscent of the classic Rolex Day-Date, the watch's case houses a ‘sunburst’ dial with gold baton indexes and a ‘Cyclops’ date window at three o’clock. The easy-to-read dial boasts plenty of visual intrigue thanks to an off-centre disc representing a secondary time zone in a 24-hour format. Furthermore, small apertures around the dial's perimeter discretely indicate the current month as part of the annual calendar complication that requires adjustment only once a year.
The watch is paired with a solid rose gold Oyster bracelet which houses an Easylink extension in the clasp for 5mm of tool-free adjustment.
Powering the Sky-Dweller is Rolex’s 9001 calibre, which is chronometer-certified by Switzerland’s COSC. Developed entirely in-house by Rolex’s team of engineers, calibre 9001 is considered to be one of the most complicated automatic movements the brand has ever created. This is largely due to the selector wheel, which is responsible for ensuring the seamless interaction of all the watch’s moving parts including its distinctive second time-zone dial. Not just impressive in terms of architecture, calibre 9001 has a power reserve of up to 72 hours.
The Rolex Sky-Dweller was introduced in 2012 and was the first all-new Rolex since it released the Yacht-Master in 1992. Thanks to its dual-time and annual calendar functions, it is considered to be the brand’s flagship “travel watch”.
