SUMMARY
The ‘Holy Trinity’ watchmaker took inspiration from its rich history to create this classically-styled and quirky reference. In 1921, it created a watch predominantly for the US market which featured a distinctive offset dial configuration. The inspiration is still debated but the initial story that it was a driver’s watch has now been abandoned by the brand. It is more likely a tribute to the off-set dial trench watches created by Waltham, Elgin and other US manufacturers to equip WWI soldiers in 1917. Almost a century later, Vacheron Constantin launched the Historiques American 1921 as a faithful recreation. Now available in several different metals and sizes, this example is presented in a 40mm rose gold case. Turning the watch over reveals the handsomely finished Vacheron Constantin calibre 4400 AS. This hand-wound movement is equipped with a 65-hour power reserve and stamped with the Geneva Seal hallmark.
