Sell it with usIn the 1980’s IWC introduced their perpetual calendar to the world, which was developed by the famous watchmaker Kurt Klaus. It was particularly innovative because it had no pushers, and all adjustments were conveniently made via the crown. The watch presented here houses a modern iteration of this legendary movement.
True to its heritage, the Portuguese Perpetual Calendar is a large watch at 44mm. However, the lugs are short, cropped and sharply downturned, ensuring a comfortable fit for most wrist sizes. The concave bezel and sloped box-section sapphire keep the watch cuff friendly. The case is presented in 18K rose gold and is expertly finished with contrasting satin and polished highlights. The watch is richly appointed with a Santoni leather strap and a full rose gold deployant buckle.
Many of the traditional Portuguese features can be seen on the textured sunburst grey dial, including the railroad minute track, leaf-style hands and applied Arabic numerals. Modern refinements come in the form of a seven-day power reserve and dial construction that neatly lays out the perpetual calendar in recessed sub-dials. The moon phase display shows both the northern and southern hemispheres, so it’s relevant for the wearer, wherever they happen to be in the world.
Turning the watch over reveals the latest generation of IWC’s long-serving and manufacture produced automatic movements. The 52000-calibre series have bi-directional winding, seven-day power reserve, and beat at 28,800 vibrations per hour. Several key components of the winding system are finished in ceramic to ensure long-lasting durability. The large winding rotor is finished in 18K rose gold.
The watch is presented in excellent condition and shows very few signs of wear. Also included in the sale are the box and papers.
