RolexSea Dweller Deepsea

The Deepsea D-Blue is a stunning, special edition of Rolex’s legendary Sea Dweller line, dedicated to James Cameron’s successful descent in 2012 to the deepest point on our planet, located at an immense depth of 10900 meters below the surface of the Pacific Ocean.

A film, ‘Deepsea Challenge 3D’ charts this historic accomplishment, chronicling Cameron’s feat and some of the scientific successes of the voyage. On the dial of this commemorative watch, the green colour of the ‘DEEPSEA’ text represents Cameron’s submersible, whilst the graduated dial colour changing from blue to black serves as a visual metaphor for the journey into the abyss.

Finally, perhaps rarest of all, the watch was unveiled at a special press event in the summer of 2014. It's almost unheard of for the brand to launch anything outside of Baselworld, so this is perhaps testament to Rolex’s veneration of this unprecedented adventure.

The watch comprises a highly robust 44mm 904L steel case, with a titanium caseback, a screw down Triplock winding crown and sapphire, scratch-resistant, domed 5.5mm crystal to ensure the integrity of the piece’s gargantuan 3900m water resistance. The D-Blue sports a ‘Monobloc’ centre case with Helium Escape Valve to ensure functionality at significant depth. The Cameron has a unidirectional 60-minute, graduated, Cerachrom insert made of ceramic, whilst its numerals and graduations are coated in platinum PVD. The watch utilises a COSC-certified Caliber 3135 movement with a 48 hour power reserve.

This 2015 model is in very good overall condition, with minor marks commensurate with age and authenticity to the case, caseback and diver’s extension bracelet. A sympathetic, light polish could refer the watch to mint condition if desired. This watch is complete with inner and outer boxes, card serial paperwork, links, tags and original purchase receipt. Like all Rolex special editions, this is a highly desirable piece.
