Sell it with usRolex’s iconic chronograph did not feature an in-house movement for much of its history. That all changed with the introduction of reference 116520 in the year 2000. Aesthetically, the watch was similar to the previous generation, but technical updates took it to a new level.
Discontinued in 2016 after a long production run, it’s the last Daytona to feature an all-steel construction before Rolex introduced its “Cerachrom” bezel in ceramic. The 40mm case is polished on the flanks and lugs, as is the bezel, which contains an engraved tachymeter scale in black. The screw-down pushers and trip-lock crown afford 100 metres of water resistance. The Oyster bracelet includes a mix of brushed and polished surfaces. It tapers down to the clasp, which offers Rolex’s “Easylink” extension system for 5mm of tool-free adjustment.
Reliably driving the Daytona for 20 years and still in production today, the calibre 4130 powers the watch. Rolex’s pioneering movement features the proprietary “Parachrom” hairspring, a 72-hour power reserve and is rated from -2 to +2 seconds per day. A column wheel and vertical clutch system make the chronograph actuation crisp and smooth.
Rolex made some minor changes to the dial, thanks to the new movement. The sub-dial at 6 o’clock now showed the running seconds, with those at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock displaying the chronograph’s minutes and hours. 18-carat white gold hands and markers are applied to the black lacquer dial, with a small hit of colour coming from the red “DAYTONA” inscription on the dial.
The watch is presented in new condition, is UK supplied and has not been worn. It’s dated to 2015, making it one of the last all-steel Daytona’s to be produced. Also included in the sale is the watch’s box, guarantee, manual and swing tags and receipt.
