Panerai Luminor Marina 8 Days Acciaio

Purchased new by the vendor from an authorised dealer in the Netherlands, this 2015 Luminor Panerai 8 Days comes as a full set. Presented in its original lacquered-wood display box, reference PAM00590 is accompanied by its user documents, original Panerai guarantee card, swing tag, and a protective rubber sleeve for the case. Further accessories include a rubber diving strap and a strap-removal tool. The watch was given a full service and polish in May 2022, and a brand new factory strap was fitted. The vendor advises the watch has not been worn since. Its overall condition is consistent with their ‘AA’ grading.

With its oversized 44m stainless steel case, this watch is immediately recognised as a Luminor Panerai model. Its minimalist black dial displays a tasteful mixture of luminous baton and Arabic hour markers, with the latter found at the 12 o’clock and six o’clock positions. At nine o’clock is a second-counting subregister, whilst Panerai’s ‘8 Giorni Brevettato’ legend is marked directly opposite. Attached to the chunky casing is a tasteful brown ‘scamosciato’ leather strap, which can be swapped for a rubber alternative better suited to deep sea-dwelling.

Flip ref PAM0059 over, and its screw-down caseback features an engraving of a frogman with his SLC torpedo; a reference to Panerai’s historical association of creating highly-accurate nautical instruments for the Italian navy. Beneath the frogman lies the ItaloSwiss watchmaker’s in-house developed P.5000 calibre, which has an impressive power reserve of 8 days (192 hours). Given the Panerai is a diver’s watch, it is water resistant to 300 metres.

A rival to the Rolex Submariner and Omega Seamaster, the Luminor Panerai was launched in 1949 and is characterised by its oversized case. Only 2000 of the 8 Days models were produced, with this watch in question being number 825.
