Produced in 2014 as a limited edition of 400 pieces to mark 175 years of Patek Philippe, the Multi-scale chronograph is a quirky watch that echo’s the type produced in the 1950s. It is not about elapsed time, hence there are no subdials, but about elevating the recording tracks commonly found around the edge of chronograph dials. The outer telemeter scale measures distance, traditionally used by artillery officers to gauge the range of a firing gun. The chronograph would be started on seeing the muzzle flash and stopped on hearing the blast. The result on the scale would tell you how far away the gun was.

The second scale is to enable doctors to measure heart rate. As the scale says, the chronograph would be started, 15 beats counted and then the point at which the seconds hand stopped would indicate the beats per minute.

The final scale is a tachymeter, most commonly associated with speed, but actually able to time rates of anything. Starting and stopping the chronograph at either end of a measured mile will give speed, but it can just as easily used by a factory manager to measure rates of production.

At 40mm in diameter, with elegantly stepped lugs, but only 10.25mm hight this is a slim watch, with Calibre CH 28 beating away inside.

This watch is offered still sealed in its factory plastic wrapping. It comes with an extract from the Patek Archives confirming its production and sale in 2014, along with all paperwork and certificate of authenticity. Also included is the presentation box which has some black finger marks to the interior.

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
