• The Royal Oak Chronograph launched in 1998 as a more functional and sporty variant of Audemars Piguet’s iconic sports watch
• ​Released in 2012, this limited edition run of 500 pieces was commissioned as a dedication to Lionel Messi, who is considered by many to be the greatest footballer of all time
• This 2014 example is no. 393 in the production run
• The watch incorporates some rare materials into its construction including a rare, hard-wearing, corrosion-resistant tantalum bezel, which provides an elegant blue-grey contrast to the satin-finished stainless steel case and white gold bezel bolts
• A further point of interest is the anthracite, vertically-brushed dial, which replaces the signature ‘tapisserie’ dial synonymous with the Royal Oak since its 1972 debut
• The screw-down caseback is engraved with ‘Limited Edition, Leo Messi’ and beneath it beats Audemars Piguet’s calibre 2385, an automatic chronograph movement with a 40-hour power reserve
• Offered by a private collector in the United Kingdom who purchased the watch new from an AP authorised dealer in the Caribbean
• Presented with a limited edition lacquered wood display box with a print of Messi’s autograph on the upper insert, Audemars Piguet-branded outer sleeve, warranty, authentication & register certificate, and booklet
• A spare rubber strap is included with the lot which the vendor advises is unused 
• Graded ‘B’ for condition by the vendor who reports the watch to be in good working order
