Sell it with usA limited-edition of 1000 pieces designed to accompany the 2010 journey of “Plastiki”, an 18ft long catamaran made almost entirely of reclaimed plastic bottles, from San Francisco to Sydney. The expedition, of which IWC was the official partner, aimed to highlight the huge accumulation of plastic waste in our oceans and it’s devastating consequences.
This limited edition Ingenieur echoes the design language that Gerald Genta coined with the original Ingenieur in the 1970s but updated with a modern look and size.
The case measures 46mm in diameter, although the integrated strap and restrained thickness help it to sit comfortably on the wrist. It’s predominantly satin finished with some fine polishing, most noticeably on the bezel to highlight its stepped design. The solid case back has the expedition logo and the limited-edition serial number engraved in it - #493/1000.
Inside the case beats IWC calibre 80110, an in-house movement with bi-directional winding (44-hour power reserve) and shock absorption system. A soft iron cage surrounds it to provide anti-magnetic protection (80,000 A/m). It is 12 bar water-resistant and has anti-reflective sapphire glass.
The Ingenieur’s interlocking “I” and lightning bolt logo can be clearly seen on the dial. A combination of applique indices with bright orange accents gives the dial texture and contrast, and the stepped minutes track adds some additional depth.
Attached to the case via a proprietary quick-release system is a unique blue rubber integrated strap which also contains the Ingenieur’s interlocking “I” logo in a series of cut-outs to the reverse.
The watch was purchased by the seller from new and is presented in excellent condition with only light signs of use. There are some marks on the inside of the rubber strap commensurate with age and regular wear. Also included in the sale are the box and papers.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
