Sell it with usThe Rolex Milgauss originated in the 1950s and was initially aimed at scientists and technicians exposed to magnetic fields. In 2007, Rolex relaunched the model, which had laid dormant since the discontinuation of reference 1019 in 1988. Traditionally sober and straightforward looking, the reference 116400 brought a more colourful and exciting aesthetic while still maintaining the technical capabilities.
Looking at the crisp white dial, the bright orange lightning bolt seconds hand is instantly recognisable and is a nod to the original Milgauss from the 1950s. Orange applied hour markers continue the colour theme, as do the numbers around the minute track and the name inscribed on the dial.
The watch measures 40mm in diameter and is finished in a high polish. Attached to the case is Rolex’s Oyster bracelet, with satin and polished links. The Oysterlock clasp incorporates Rolex’s Easylink extension for 5mm of tool-free adjustment. A screw-down twin-lock crown provides 100m of water resistance.
Inside the case beats caliber 3131, a movement developed for the Milgauss with anti-magnetic properties. Rolex’s proprietary ‘Parachrom’ hairspring and ‘Paraflex’ shock absorbers provide reliability and robustness. It has a 48-hour power reserve, bi-directional rotor and is rated from -2 to +2 seconds a day in addition to being chronometer-certified.
The watch is presented in good condition, with some minor signs of wear on the clasp. The original inner and outer box is provided in the sale but the original papers are not.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
