The Rolex Day-Date was first launched in 1956 and was the world’s first chronometer wristwatch that could display the week’s date and day through windows in its dial. Since then, it’s become synonymous with luxury as a flagship model in Rolex’s catalogue. This reference 118238 from 2006 is presented in 36mm, widely considered a perfect size and how the watch was originally intended to look. Sitting within this yellow gold case is a white dial with yellow gold Roman numerals, hands and indices. Together with the iconic fluted bezel, the watch plays with the light and further enhances the watch’s luxurious feel.

Fitted to the side of the case is a twin-lock crown, giving the watch 100 metres of water resistance. While most dress watches would feel out of place by the water, the Day-Date’s case makes it a truly versatile option that can be worn in any situation. To mark the model’s introduction in 1956, Rolex introduced the President bracelet, which can be seen here in yellow gold. Available almost exclusively on the Day-Date, the three-link design has a concealed ‘Crownclasp’. The only partition point is the five-point coronet which opens to reveal a single-fold deployant clasp.

The watch is presented in good condition with some visible signs of wear consistent with its age. A certificate of authenticity from the watch dealer the owner bought it from will be provided. It was also serviced by the dealer prior to the owner acquiring it. The original box (not shown in the images) is included in the sale.

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
