Sell it with usThe first generation of Royal Oak chronographs is gaining considerable interest amongst collectors. While the first complications in the Royal Oak first appeared in the early 1980s, Audemars Piguet took nearly 25 years to adapt its design to house the two chronograph buttons on the outside of its case.
Back in 1997, when this model was unveiled to mark the Royal Oak's 25th anniversary, it remained faithful to the original size of the first Royal Oak "Jumbo", ref. 5402 (39mm). As seen in this example, these watches have a larger tapisserie motif on the dial, known as the "Grande Tapisserie”, a feature first introduced in this white dial model, 25860ST.
The watch has a date window located between 4 and 5 o’clock. The dial is marked with the Audemars Piguet logo at 12 o'clock, sitting below an inverted triangle marker, making it easy to recognise (and read) this Royal Oak chronograph at first sight.
It also features one of the flattest self-winding chronograph movements of its time, calibre 2385, with an 18K gold oscillating weight.
The watch, from 2006, is offered on its original AP signed steel bracelet with clasp. The watch shows signs of wear with scratches to the case, bezel and bracelet commensurate with its age. The sale includes the watch’s box and guarantee.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
