ABOUT THIS WATCH
- Patek Philippe created the first self-winding perpetual calendar wristwatch in 1962 in the form of the coveted ref. 3448
- A notable advancement in movement architecture at the time, it’s among many technical achievements associated with the Holy Trinity watchmaker
- Fast forward to 1999 and Patek Philippe launched the ref. 5059, which offers a unique aesthetic thanks to its long straight lugs and hinged caseback
- In addition to its highly complicated perpetual calendar movement, the 5059 is also equipped with a retrograde date that allows the indicator to instantly flick back to the first of the month at midnight on the last day of each month
- The dial is classically styled with Roman numeral hour markers and a moonphase positioned at 6 o’clock
- Flipping up the hinged caseback reveals the calibre 315 S QR which is elaborately decorated and features a 21K gold winding rotor in addition to being stamped with the Geneva Seal hallmark
- The watch is paired with a factory black alligator strap
