Once an unloved model in the Rolex catalogue, the Explorer II has gained popularity in recent years and is now highly sought after by collectors. Originally designed for “spelunking” or cave exploring, the movement was updated in the 1980s so that the 24-hour hand could be operated independently. This transformed the model into a versatile and rugged travel companion. The Explorer II’s brushed radial bezel distinguishes it from other Rolex professional models. The ref 16570 is the last generation of 40mm Explorer II’s before Rolex increased the size to 42mm in 2011, and for many collectors, it represents the perfect proportions.
