Offered by an established UK-based dealer, this 2003 Franck Muller Casablanca is presented with its box and certificate of origin and warranty. The seller advises that the watch has no signs of wear and that its condition is consistent with a ‘AAA’ grading.

This example from 2003, a Casablanca (reference 5850) in a steel case, was very specifically created for the Kuwaiti royal family. As such, it bears a case back different from the standard production models of the time.

The distinctive tonneau-shaped case measures 32 x 45mm and is crafted from stainless steel. The black dial features large stylised Arabic numerals synonymous with Franck Muller's design language, and these, along with the hands, are filled with luminous material to offer superior legibility. Attached to the case is a factory black leather strap.

The self-styled ‘Master of Complications’, Franck Muller rose to prominence in the 1990s with a range of spectacular watches and publicity events to promote them. He was the prototype ‘rock star watchmaker’ at a time when the industry was a smaller and more conservative place.
