KEY FACTS

• Introduced in 1989, the Rolex GMT-Master II reference 16710 enjoyed a production run of almost 20 years until it was phased out in 2007
• ​It's considered the last classically proportioned GMT-Master II thanks its more refined and wearable 40mm case compared to later watches
• It was also the last GMT-Master II to have an aluminium bezel insert; successive references were fitted with the visually-bolder ceramic ‘Cerachrom’ unit used to-date
• This 40mm 2001 example is paired with the black and red ‘Coke’ bezel, which has gained a cult following amongst collectors and enthusiasts
• Beneath the screw-down rear casing beats Rolex’s calibre 3185, a chronometer-certified movement with a 48-hour power reserve and a GMT function
• The screw-down crown affords the watch 100 metres of water resistance
