Sell it with usPart of a private collection, this early Patek Philippe Aquanaut is offered for auction with its extract for the archives, leather wallet and 2 rubber straps, one of which is uncut. The watch is presented with light signs of wear but no significant marks or dents, bringing it within the seller’s ‘A’ grading.
This early example Aquanaut from 1999, it features a 36mm rounded polygon shape case, clearly inspired by the Gerald Genta designed Nautilus. It is expertly hand finished with clearly defined brushed and polished surfaces. The dial features a distinctive geosphere cut, with applied white gold indices, Arabic numerals, and hands all showing a warm patina. The exhibition caseback was introduced for the first on this reference 5066, displaying the calibre 330 SC, which has a 21K yellow gold winding rotor and a 45-hour power reserve.
Rocking the watch industry to its core, the Patek Philippe Aquanaut was released in 1997 and redefined the norms of watchmaking. The idea of a Patek Philippe on a rubber strap initially seemed oxymoronic, but it has now stood the test of time and has established itself as a modern classic.
