Sell it with usDeveloped in 1955 as a navigational and dual time-zone aid for globe-trotting pilots, the Rolex GMT-Master is an icon of the technical watch world. This Ref. 16700 ‘Pepsi’ from 1998 in stainless-steel is a prime example of the peerless functionality, robustness and instantly recognisable aesthetics ‘Pepsi’ GMTs have come to represent.
Produced alongside the GMT-Master II, this reference ran from 1988 to 1999 and was the final GMT-Master evolution, making this example one of the last of the line to be made. It offered a number of improvements over its predecessor including a sapphire crystal, white gold indices and a newly designed case. The 16700 was the last Rolex to use the calibre 3175 movement with synched, hour indicators, only showing 2 time zones, all later movements allowed the showing of 3. Being a later watch, the luminous markers are Luminova rather than tritium.
Despite its 20 plus years of life, this example of a 16700 is in fantastic condition. Its long-lasting appeal and timeless design aesthetics mean it is more than capable of holding its own against any number of modern alternatives.
Available with its original box, this watch has been looked after incredibly well, with only very light and delicate service swirling around the bracelet and case lugs. The original papers are not available.
