The 16800 is considered a transitional reference by collectors, incorporating an interesting mix of features found in both vintage and modern Submariners. It’s a model that strikes a nice balance between classic looks and the robustness and reliability of modern construction. Some significant technical updates were introduced on the 16800, most notably a uni-directional bezel and a 300m water-resistant case - an increase of 100m over previous references.

This particular example benefits from a matte dial and painted hour markers with no surrounds, a specification that enthusiasts appreciate and that was updated only a few years later. The tritium markers have faded to a warm patina that's even and defined. The overall condition of the watch is excellent and within the bounds of the seller’s AA grading. It shows no signs of wear since it was serviced in 2014, with stickers still in place on the flanks and case back. The condition and colouring of the hands and bezel insert indicate they were replaced during service.

The attached Oyster bracelet is also exemplary and is stamped with the reference 93150 and 593 on the end links, dating it correctly to the production year of the watch. The sale includes a Rolex box, a service guarantee card from Rolex Service Centre dated 6 August 2014, and a chronometer swing tag.

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
