Sell it with usUp for auction through a private seller, this classic 1980’s Rolex Day-Date is presented as a full set. Provided with its original display box, this reference is also presented with two service receipts from Rolex, a blanket, and its original Rolex box. Given its age, the watch has naturally incurred some age-related marks and there is a characterful patina on the crystal. Nonetheless, the watch is reported to be in good working order, and given the condition of the ensemble, it fits within the bounds of the vendor’s ‘A’ grading.
Finished entirely in 18K yellow gold, this 1980’s Rolex Day-Date is a vintage interpretation of one of the brand’s most-loved references. Fitted with the Day-Date line’s fluted bezel, this watch’s silver dial is complete with applied yellow gold baton hour markers, and a subtle, Roman numeral-designated outer track. As-per the reference’s trademark design, there is a date window located at three o’clock with a “cyclops” window, and a day marker at 12 o’clock. Anchored to the watch is an 18K yellow gold ‘President’ bracelet. This instantly recognisable bracelet had become synonymous with the Day-Date since its launch in the 1950s thanks to the watch being worn by several US presidents.
This classic reference is fitted with Rolex’s 3055 calibre which was introduced for the 18038 reference Day-Date and was highly-regarded by enthusiasts for its precision and reliability.
The Rolex Day-Date was introduced in 1956 and was the world’s first watch to display the date and the day spelled in full. Considered a tour de force of watchmaking upon release, the Day-Date has become one of the all-time classic Rolex designs.
