Sell it with usFor many Rolex collectors, the ref. 5513 is the Submariner to have. It’s not the rarest – in fact it is among the longest continually produced series in Rolex’s history, having been in production from 1962 until 1989. But it’s for that reason alone that it is considered to be the epitome of the classic dive watch.
Despite the long production period, the ‘Maxi’ dial variants, a version of which we see here, were in production for a relatively short period between 1976 and 1984. With their large tritium plots, these dial layouts were produced in five variants. This particular example has a Mark III dial, which is a favourite amongst collectors as the large plots appear to touch the five-minute markers - earning it the ‘lollipop’ nickname.
Inside, the automatic calibre 1530 features 17 jewels and gives a 48-hour power reserve. The 1530 calibre’s reputation for robustness and reliability are boosted by the KIF-Flector system and the Breguet balance hairspring, designed to shield the watch from shock and extreme temperature changes.
The watch is offered on a Rolex 93150 Oyster bracelet with 580 end links and is accompanied by a Rolex presentation box and a purchase receipt from the seller dated to 2016. It shows signs of wear commensurate with its age, and its condition is within the bounds of the seller’s A grading.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
The description of this auction lot is, to the best of the seller's knowledge, accurate and not misleading.
