Sell it with usThe Omega Chronostop was launched in 1966, initially to be part of the Seamaster collection. It was eventually advertised as a more affordable chronograph targeted at younger buyers. The Chronostop is a result of 1960s experimentalism, which focused on funky colours and unconventional geometry.
It features an oval-shaped case with a racing-style minutes track and a contrasting bright orange seconds hand. The ‘tropical’ dial was originally black has faded to a warm brown tone. Also showing signs of ageing are the hour markers, which have developed a nice patina to complement the dial. The Omega Chronostop won the 1967 Honor Prize for “Chronographs and Sport Watches” and 1st prize for Industrial Aesthetics at the Utrecht Spring Fair in 1968 due to its creative design. It was also the official watch for timing in the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico.
This late 1960s example is presented in worn condition with marks and blemishes on the case commensurate with age. The accompanying Omega mesh bracelet also shows signs of wear. No box or papers are included in the sale.
